Whales English was formerly Sprout4Future (to teachers) and Rouchi (to parents/students).

It is an online teaching school based in China. It is designed for English learners between the ages of 5 to 15. The company has a registered student population of over 16,000 and expanding. They have an average of 2-3 students in a class, and over 10,000 different classes with almost 800 native English-speaking teachers.

Class Type

  • 50-minute group classes

  • U.S. Common Core aligned lesson material

  • Group classes (2 to 3 students)

  • No lesson planning, no talking to parents, no correcting homework

Age range

  • 5 to 15 years old

Requirements

  • A bachelor degree or higher

  • Minimum 1 year experience teaching kids

  • At least one teaching certificate: TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, etc.

  • Be from a native English speaking country (including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand

Pay

  • $18-$30 USD per 50-minute class

  • Additional performance-based bonuses

Minimum Hours

  • at least 8 hours per week

  • A minimum of 4 of those hours must be on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 19:00-21:00 Beijing time.

  • The remaining four hours must be during during peak hours (see below).

Peak Teaching Times

Peak hours are:

  • Weekdays: 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. (Beijing Time)

  • Weekends: 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. (Beijing Time)

Whales English is for:

    Unfortunately, many companies are looking for US or Canadian teachers. Whales English however, hires native English speakers from the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

Things to consider:

  • Whales English requires a commitment of at least 8 hours per week from its teachers. This company may not work for somebody who needs more flexibility in their schedule.

Technical Requirements

Whales English simply lists the following as their technical requirements:

  • and a noise-cancelling headset
