Overview

Whales English is an online teaching school based in China. It is designed for English learners between the ages of 5 to 15 with a registered student population of over 16,000 and still expanding. They have an average of 2-3 students in a class, and approximately over 10,000 different classes with almost 800 native English-speaking teachers.

Class Type

  • 50 minute group classes

  • U.S. Common Core aligned lesson material

  • No lesson planning, no talking to parents, no correcting homework

Age range

  • 5 to 15 years old

Requirements

  • A bachelor degree or higher

  • Minimum 1 year experience teaching kids

  • At least one teaching certificate: TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, etc.

    (We offer TESOL certificates for just $19)

  • Be from a native English speaking country (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, or any other native English speaking country)

Compensation

  • $18-$30 USD per 50-minute class

  • Additional performance-based bonuses

Technical Requirements

Whales English simply lists the following as their technical requirements:

  • a computer,

  • a strong internet connection,

  • and a noise-cancelling headset

Other notes

  • Start date: immediately

  • Contract term: 6 months

  • Teachers are paid through bank transfer each month for the previous month’s work

  • You're required to provide at least 8 hours per week with a minimum of 4 hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 19:00-21:00 Beijing time.

  • Lesson times must be during peak hours:

    • Weekdays: Beijing Time: 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

      Weekends: Beijing Time: 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

  • Whales English offers ongoing professional development through their teacher training courses
